The Past Few Days..

I feel like it's been forever since I have blogged, but I think its only been a week! Not much has been going on lately, so I haven't really much to blog about! A few highlights from the past week ...

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving this year! We went to our friends, the Baughs. There were about 16 people there I believe. Everyone was from the Unit and we all had a great time together! Although this was the first Thanksgiving not spent with family, I feel like we had great company, and I'm thankful that we got to share it with everyone there!

Saturday, we went hiking at Tadake Falls. It's about a 45 minute drive up north and so worth it! The hike was more like a river trek. We literally had to walk/climb through anywhere from a few inches of water to a few feet. Sometimes we had to use ropes to climb up rocks to get over the very deep part of the river. It was a great workout and we all had a ton of fun.

Once we got to the falls, it was beautiful! The falls were about 50 - 60 feet tall, and the pool at the bottom of the falls was probably about 6 feet deep. The water was freezing though.

There was a trail that went almost straight up, and led to the top of the falls. You could look out and down. I decided against going on the trail, which it's probably a good thing I did too because Matt said it was a tough climb. The boys made it to the top successfully and proved just how high the falls were. Can you see them at the top?

I'm glad we went finally did this hike. I have been wanting to do it for a while, and it is so worth it! There is another set of falls called Hiji Falls, that I hope to do sometime soon.

On another note, I had a job interview today! I'm not too thrilled about it, but a job is a job right? I really need one and there isn't much to chose from on this island. If I get it, I'll be working at a store called Crafty Things. It's the craft store on Kadena. I never thought I would be working retail again, but in a way I kind of miss it. I would be the Lead sales clerk aka I will be in charge of all the cashiers. I will be opening and closing and doing all the stuff management does. Too bad I wouldn't get paid like management right? I'm not sure when I'll find out if I got it or not, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

The highlight of my week thus far, even though it's only Tuesday, was skyping with Chelsee today! I was so excited I got to talk to her! She left Oki only about a month ago (which feels like forever) and has finally arrived in Alaska! I miss her and her hubby like crazy! But, sometime in the near future I will be taking a hop from here to there for a visit! So that is exciting!

Not much else has been going on. My life is somewhat boring these days. I'm just thankful for everything I have in my life right now. It's very simplistic and I'm okay with that.

I'm So Thankful!

"The unthankful heart discovers no mercies; but let the thankful heart sweep through the day, and as the magnet finds the iron, so it will find, in every hour, some heavenly blessings!" - Henry Ward Beecher

Wow, I can't believe Thanksgiving is in one week! This year has flown by so fast, I can hardly keep up. I've been in somewhat of another rut lately. I hate when I get like this. With Thanksgiving coming up, I need to realize what I have in my life, instead of what I don't have.

There are some things that have been going on in my life that are somewhat stressful and disappointing. For instance, we are not going to Hawaii now. Bummer I know.. but just the fact that we were going is more then a lot of people could say. With Christmas coming up and our bills getting higher, it's just not smart to go there and spend a few thousand on a vacation that we really don't need. I was really upset about it at first, but we decided to be adults about it and realize Hawaii will always be there. We can go another time. I think it's kind of low of me to get so upset about it, when there are people out there who don't have a place to live this winter. So I will just get over it.

There are other things that are bothering me as well, and I feel like I'm being selfish getting bothered by them. I am not going to say what is bothering, because it's still hush hush.. but just know that I am being selfish. I know God has a plan for my husband and I and things happen for a reason. So when things don't always go our way, I just have to remember that there is a reason for that. I need to just be happy with what I have in my life.

I am so thankful that I have a wonderful, caring husband, who is my soul mate and best friend. He is truly the BEST thing that has ever happened to me. I honestly thank God every night before I go to bed for sending him to me. I am also so very thankful for my family. We have all come a long way, but I feel like my relationships (most of them, anyways) with my family members have become very strong and just plain awesome! I love them all dearly. I am also thankful for my amazing friends! I never really realized how strong and fantastic our friendship was, until I got over here. When I meet someone new or we get to talking about our friends and family at home, I always tell people how truly awesome my friends are. That we have been best friends since grade school, and will remain best friends throughout our adult lives. And I swear, every person I have told that to tells me how lucky I am to have a group of girls like them. And they are so totally right! Girls, I am so lucky and thankful to have you all in my life. We have all been through so much together. Thank you for always being there for me. I love you girls! BFF!

I'm glad I can take the time and remember what I am thankful for. There are so many other things to be thankful for too, like our hero's who give us the freedom we have, and the roof over my head, and this new family we call our unit. Everyone should take a time out and remember what truly matters in life. It's not the clothes we wear, the cars we drive, or the vacations we take. For me, it's the family and friends in my life that mean so much to me, and it's the place I call home (even if it is on the other side of the world). And I wouldn't have it any other way.

Happy Veterans Day

My hubby & I after his deployment in '08!

It's November 11, meaning it's Veterans Day! Veterans Day never really meant anything to me. I knew that it was a holiday honoring our brave soldiers, but it never had any significance to me, until I met my husband. I was not really patriotic at any point in my life before I met him. We started dating, and I got to know more about the military and the duties that come with signing on that dotted line. Since then, I have had the utmost respect for ANY service member, regardless of sex or branch.

I know a lot of people out there don't agree with the war or what we are fighting for, and there isn't anything anyone can do to change that. You just have to put those people on the back burner and realize that not everyone is going to agree. However, to those people who don't stand behind our troops, I say feel free to stand IN FRONT of them.

I am so proud of my brave Airman! This coming year will he his 10th year of being in the United States Air Force. And he plans on staying in for life, so 10 more years it is! A lot of wives wouldn't understand. They would probably try to convince their husbands to not reenlist so they can start a family, or be around more often. And yes, that thought has crossed my mind a time or two. But I am behind my Airman 100% with what he wants to do. I will always be by his side, no matter what. That is the true definition of a military spouse, and I am proud to say that I am one. And I am even more proud to call my husband my hero! Thank you baby for all that you do for your country and family! I love you!

Happy Veterans Day to all of the men & women who have served, are currently serving, or will in the future! Your service means everything to this country!

Sushi Galore!

Last night (Friday) my hubby and I went to a new sushi place called Kamisushi to eat dinner. I had went earlier in the week with some girlfriends for the lunch portion, but they didn't have a huge menu. What I had eaten earlier in the week was so good (Fried Gyoza, Cucumber Roll, & Avocado Roll), that I just had to bring Matt to try it for dinner. And WOW! It was so much better then lunch. We both ordered sushi rolls, and I ordered some more Friend Gyoza (Pot stickers). When the sushi rolls came out, I was in awe. They were so beautiful. Hard to talk about food like that, since you just eat it. But the presentation of these rolls were just gorgeous. So, ya know, I had to take photos! Enjoy! Hope you aren't hungry by the end of the blog :)

Shrimp Tempura Roll - the best part about it was it was WARM on the inside, and crunchy!

Caterpillar Roll - Crab, Cucumber, Eel, & Avocado - delish!

California Roll - Of course, it's good!

Dragon Roll - Crab, Eel, Cucumber, & Avocado - yummo!

Alaska Roll - Matt's fave. I can't do the salmon!

Love that they put flowers on the plates!

Well, now that you are all starving! (Okay, Maybe just Chelsee? I know the rest of y'all don't like sushi) Needless to say, we will definitely be going back to this amazing sushi joint!
